to Alan's:

Alan started racing in 1999 with Bemsee and Darley
Moor on a 250Lcs.
He won his 4th ever race, at Darley, and claimed
numerous top 3 finishes during the season. He finished
7th and 9th overall in the respective championships
despite missing several rounds.
Alan then spent 2 frustrating seasons on a Honda
GP250, racing mainly with Darley Moor and although he
had plenty of podium placings, he never really got to
grips with the bike.
He decided to move onto an Aprilia Mille and competed
in the MRO Challenge for 2 seasons. One of his
highlights was qualifying on the front row and achieving
his best finish of 4th place at Brands. Once again, Alan
saw numerous top 5 positions in the Challenge as well as
top 3 places in the BMCRC Supertwins Championship.
Unfortunately both seasons finished early because of
financial constraints.
In 2003, Alan entered the Manx GP as a Newcomer on
the Mille. He had mechanical problems in the Newcomers
race and finished 2nd to last with a best lap of 94mph.
He overcame his frustration and went on to finish 40th
from 110 starters in the Senior race with a best lap of
109.38mph and was awarded a Silver Replica.
Alan raced in the Sound of Thunder on a Mille with
North Gloucester in 2003 and 2004. Once again, he
achieved numerous top 3 finishes and set a lap record at
Darley.
In 2003, he also raced in KRC Endurance Championship
(Class D) with Black Cat Racing on an SP1, finishing the
season 3rd in class. Alan enjoyed the endurance and
returned to compete in the KRC Championships in 2004,
this time with Uprite Racing where they achieved a best
finish of 2nd at Donington.
Alan, however, has yet to finish a full racing
season, predominantly because of a lack of funds. He has
put every spare penny of his own money into his racing
and now that he has decided to leave the Royal Marines after
10 years of service, the sponsorship they provided is
gone.
Although he has committed to race with Uprite in the
KRC Championship this year, he is really going to
struggle without some financial help. He has also
applied to race in the Senior and Junior classes at the
Manx in August and although he has the bikes available
to race, he will need about £2500 to be able to compete.
Alan would also like to race with North Gloucester in
the Sound of Thunder and Street Stock classes on-board a
loaned Mille. But without sponsorship, Alan can't see
how he will be able to continue to race at all.
This would be devastating to Alan as in 1999, he
competed at World Championship level and placed 2nd in
the Team Quadrathlon event. He says "Looking ahead, if I
could secure the backing, I would love to compete on a
world stage again in World Endurance."
Alan is dedicated to his racing and race craft and
can't imagine what his life would be like without it.
